Tracks on the lake

Lake now has tracks on it, most of the slushy areas now mostly ok.
Watch out for icy sections. With lots of snow in the forecast plan on refreshing the tracks on the Aluvian Fan and Horse trail on Thursday.

January 5th ski

Temperatures dropped drastically—to -20 but the trails are setting up great! Did a short ski AROUND the lake and used the frozen skidoo track loop for the first time—to avoid the avalanche area. It was sketchy with all that uneven ice but the last of the slush on that wee section should be all frozen with todays cold snap. The track on the East side was lovely. Still one tree down when you go up towards Peaceful Pond. It is just near the base of the junction where you snowshoe towards the lodge. PLEASE BE CAREFUL —especially on that fast downhill if you are skiing counter clockwise. It can be avoided but tricky !!! Hans widened all the hill so now you can herringbone or snow plough or walk. Still pretty fast hills !
Slab avalanche off the very right gully on Emerald Peak likely triggered by ski touring group after they were above it(luckily). We called it in to dispatch and the helicopter and avalanche rescue investigated. No one was hurt. Please avoid the AVI PATH for your own safety. Hopefully we will be able to set a track on the lake soon.

Trails at Emerald Lake

The snow is not letting up…..and it is still mild. Lake ice is still slushy under the weight of all that snow!
The Parks Safety crew shut down the trails crossing the avalanche path. We cannot use that access with our sled/groomer and the lake is impassible also. Now we are hoping for really cold temps to freeze things up(unfortunately)—so we can access the fan loop. Ski the Connector in the meantime.
Enjoy….
