kicking horse fire rd

Kicking horse fire rd has been packed and has a single track on it. Early season conditions, so expect some brush sticking out etc.
Tally ho has been packed, but no tracks yet.

Emerald Lake

Put fresh tracks on the Aluvian fan and horse trail last night(Friday Nov 29), John cut a path through the avalanche debris to access the horsetrail use caution as there might still be some stumps etc.

Update on Kick horse fire rd:

John worked on it yesterday(machine packed) Plan is to go back later today and do some more packing

Classic tracks on Tak Falls road

There are now classic tracks on Tak Falls road. The intention is to keep these maintained all winter. Cautionairy note: A truck has created huge ruts for the first km or so. Use caution especially coming down the last hill!! Not great for skate skiing yet, but will try grooming for skate skiing next time.

Emerald update:

Horse trail has a track on it(use caution heading up the hill coming off the walking path(stumps/branches sticking out)

Packed the east shore trail, no track yet as it needs quite a bit more snow.

Packed the Peaceful pond trail for snowshoeing

Plan on doing the Kick horse fire rd/river trail  to Field VRC on Thursday so should be ready to go for Friday

Trail Update – 24/11/2013

Hans was at Emerald all day today.

He packed from the boat dock to the end of the lake (walking path) and also packed the alluvial fan really well. Before leaving, he put one track on the walking path and the fan, so the diehards can do some track skiing.

Note: There are a few stumps and rocks still sticking out and some parts are a bit rough (gullies), but not bad for early season.

Plan to do more work next Tuesday / Wednesday (East Shore Trail, Yoho Valley Road and the first few kilometres of the connector).

Go for a ski if you have time and let us know how it was.

Getting Ready for 2013-2014

This winter season marks 25 years of X-C groomed tracks in Yoho! It is also the anniversary of Emerald Sports & Gifts.

The Field Kicking Horse Ski Club has been getting ready for the upcoming 2013-2014 season.

❄ Our crated brand new skidoo arrived at Motor Tech Enterprises in Golden mid September.
❄ Kathryn Cameron picked up the new track setter from Advance Tracksetting in Sherwood Park, AB October 21.
❄ John Morrison purchased a used track setter from Lake O’hara Lodge and gathered old equipment to bring to Emerald Lake.
❄ David Allen picks up the new sled from Golden and brings it to Field.
❄ Sean Coubrough of Parks Canada helps us find winter storage for new equipment.
❄ Todd Keith of Parks Canada skied through bureaucracy to get the green light to do new trail construction.
❄ 5 days later the Club has a new trail thanks to Mountain Iron Construction / Ryan Gallagher of Golden BC.
❄ Michael Furfaro helps with the chainsaw clean up work.
❄ The new trail “the Re- Connector” avoids the avalanche area on the Tally-Ho cliffs, drops down towards the Natural Bridge and then bear’s back up again. It is still an intermediate to advance trail rating as most of the Connector. Just waiting for snow at this point(so we are heading for Hawaii)
❄ First trails to get track set this early winter will be along Emerald Lake and the Alluvial Fan with possibly the first 2 km of the upper connector down the Emerald River.
The remainder of the Connector, including the new Re-connector, is usually not track set until after the Christmas holidays due to less snowfall in that area and the roughness of the terrain.
❄ Other trails to open early are the Kicking Horse Fire Road from the Information Bureau to the Otterhead River and the Takkakkaw Falls Road.
❄ Sign up for free updates on the web site to keep in the loop (bottom of the HOME page). Send in your memberships and get ready to ski this winter.

We appreciate the support of Skier Bob for promoting Yoho trails. Check out his site: www.skihere.ca
