A letter from a member….with our Coach!

Hi Marilyn
Great to see you yesterday – amazing day!
Just to make it official. We wanted to let you know that we went to the classic ski lesson on Sunday morning. It is a little daunting to wake up to a chilly morning and think of getting out skiing right away, but the thermometer read -18C. The cut off temp. for ski racing and lessons in Canada is -20C so we figured that was good enough for us. At the natural bridge we were greeted by Jessica and the most beautiful freshly packed and tracked trails-even a lesson grid made especially for us. And what an opportunity to be taught by a level 3 CANSI instructor with racing experience. Our class was composed of an expert downhill skier learning to ski cross-country, a cross-country instructor really in need of some technique work and a recreational skier. Jessica was able to keep us moving so that -16C became balmy and a layer or two could come off. She was also very capable of teaching each skill so that everyone was able to learn and then gave us pointers according to our individual needs so that each of left the morning with something to work on for the rest of the season… After that we could not stop ourselves-Pierre and I skied right to the end of the Otterhead trail – a sunny day, perfectly set tracks and amazing mountain views. The cross-country skiing here is “second to none”. We really have a GEM with our ski club in the mountains.
See you soon.
Wendy

In reference to the (Dis)- Connector Trail

Hans track set 6 kms. of the Connector Trail  down from Emerald Lake to the AVALANCHE DANGER turn around a few days ago. This trail is still a bit rough but usable. The cliffs and gullies above the trail  SLIDE  every winter/spring—especially with the warmth of the sun on the cliffs or the very mild weather happens.  This is still a big concern by Parks Canada safety staff and The Kicking Horse Ski Club does not track set this area to connect to the Tally Ho Trail (Field to Nat. Bridge). It is considered touring and use at your own risk. Please be totally aware of this danger and avoid traveling through it.         Ski safe.

Connector now track set!

Connector trail(up to the turn around point) now has a track on it.
Other trails that were track set today: East shore trail

David is heading out tomorrow and will track set the Field to Nat bridge section plus Kicking Horse River.

Fresh tracks at Emerald

Horse Trail, Aluvian Fan, East Shore Trail, Connector(first 2 km only) all have fresh tracks on them.
There are also fresh tracks on the lake now, watch out for a few slushy/icy spots.
For the folks that want to ski from Field to Emerald Lake….. The connector is now packed all the way to the turn around point(from Last year). Big Thank you to the volunteers that helped with shoveling/snowshoeing!
