Jan. 18th DEEPFREEZE

No more slush on the lake! And Emerald was not affected by the “Yoho Blow” the Kicking Horse Valley got. Hans groomed and set all trails at the lake on Monday the 16th.(sorry I’m so late) Just a skiff of the lightest soft snow since then. He’s due to come back out tomorrow. The Connector looks really good up until the Avalanche Hazard area –which is where the wind all began.

Friday, JAN. 13TH

With the COLD– Hans was able to set a track all around on the ice again. He did have trouble with slush only in the SE bay of the lake where the ice trail meets the shore. It likely froze up by now. ALWAYS USE CAUTION ON THE LAKE. There is still no track on the Connector–it is only groomed. Wish for snow snow snow……
Tak Falls road is exellent —Hansi says.

January 11th—Wed.

Here’s our winter! The cold has arrived! Good enough to freeze up the slush puddles on the lake! Hans groomed only a small section of the lake yesterday—waiting for this to happen—and not get the machine stuck in slush.
He did track set the Horse Trail and Fan and they turned out just fine. Gorgeous and sunny there today. He only “groomed”(no track) the Connector and the East side of Emerald due to lack of snow and crusty conditions. He hope to get back at it soon as we get more snow to make a decent track.
He also groomed and tracked the Kicking Horse Fire Road yesterday. And today he was working on getting the Yoho Valley Road in shape. Welcome to winter—enough already with the balmy weather!

Jan. 7th, 2012 Moonlite Ski @ back of Emerald Lake

Jan. 7th, 2012 Moonlite Ski @ back of Emerald Lake

Last track setting at Emerald Lake was on Jan. 6th. The Alluvial Fan is still beautiful and soft though the trails in the trees remain crusty (with some tree bombs) since the last Pineapple Express the week before. The lake is still slushy and icy in spots.
Our Club Moonlite Ski on the 7th was wonderful. Mild weather and a turnout of 17 skiers! Jessica made ice candles to mark the way on the lake to the back where we enjoyed hot drinks. It was cloudy but we did not need the headlamps–still lot’s of moonlite coming through.

January 6th, 2012

We will have a Moon Lite ski at 8.30 pm that night at Emerald Lake and on the Alluvial Fan. Come join the Club–only $10.00 for the season. Or you can pay $5.00 per event if you wish.
If anyone cares to come to Emerald Lake Lodge for a bite before the ski—we’ll be there.
